Ace, Tegan, The Master & More return for the final special

|

It’s a mantra we feel like we’ve been repeating every day for three years. As you well know, today we find The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill), and Dan (John the Bishop) taking on the “Legend of the Sea Devils” in Whittaker & showrunner’s second Chris Chibnallthree final stages before concluding this fall with the centenary stage. Of the, Russell T. Davies returns to take over as showrunner (with a new doctor to run) for series 14 slated for fall 2023 (with rumors of some “events” that may occur before then). But before reaching next year, there is one last special to come this year that could well set the tone for what is to come. And with the Sunday afternoon/evening screening of “Legend of the Sea Devils” (US or UK), news of the Thirteenth Doctor’s latest adventure has arrived – and we have Cybermen, the Master (Sasha Dhawan)… and yes, the return of Ace (Sophie Aldred) and Tegan (Janet Fielding).

Recently, Chibnall opened up to RadioTimes.com about whether he’d fire a Davies and return at some point, why it’s important for a showrunner to make his own mark on the long-running series, and whether he thinks that Davies will follow some of the most important additions to the show’s lore that he added during his time:

Chibnall isn’t shy about whether he’ll ever return to ‘Doctor Who’: “Absolutely never again! Clear red line, final script. I never expected to return after working with Steven [Moffat], really, and I’d turned it down several times after that. I never thought I’d be offered the job and that’s why I wanted to stick to a very specific three-series thing. Supervising teen revisions takes up my time now and there’s plenty of other stuff to write! I’ll be happy to sit down and watch. Still, it’s been beautiful all along, now it’s like, ‘Oh I remember. This is what real life looks like!'”

Chibnall: “Oh, I expect Russell to ignore it!”: “You don’t carry a vase across a room – you have to walk in and say what you want about the show, the character and the world. It’s one of the few drama series without a written bible, and every era contains a contradiction or a left turn from what has come before. Any future showrunner will either ignore it or work with it,” Chibnall explained when asked if he thought Davies would follow through on the things that he said. he had brought to the lore of the series.

Chibnall explains why Davies’ return is good news for ‘Doctor Who’ fans: “Everyone should have a big smile on their face. Russell is one of the elite showrunners and ‘Who’ is very lucky to have him, especially after ‘It’s a Sin’, one of the most great series of all time. That he has incredible ideas and a passion for it, that he wants to push it forward again – it’s fabulous. No one has a greater love for “Doctor Who.”
