A pair of set photos from HBO Max’s upcoming fourth season Titans offer a first look at Lisa Ambalavanar as Jinx.
The photos in question were shared on the r/DCEUleaks subreddit. The first snapshot focuses on Ambalavanar, who can be seen in Jinx costume, wearing ripped jeans, a leather jacket, and pinkish and purple hair. In the second photo, she appears alongside a number of others Titans stars, including Brenton Thwaites (who plays Nightwing) and Anna Diop (who plays Starfire), among others.
Created by Marv Wolfman and Chuck Patton, Jinx first appeared in Tales of the Teen Titans #56, cover dated August 1985. In the comics, Jinx is a powerful witch, supervillain, and former leader of the Fearsome Five. A revamped version of the character appeared in Cartoon Network Teen Titans animated series that aired from 2003 to 2006.
In the Teen Titans cartoon, Jinx possessed the power of probability manipulation (meaning she could curse her enemies with bad luck). For much of the show, she appeared as a member of the villainous HIVE Academy, often teaming up with fellow DC comic book characters Mammoth and Gizmo. In fact, Jinx, Mammoth and Gizmo were the main antagonists of “Final Exam”, the first episode of Teen Titans to air on television (although technically not Episode 1 of the series). Towards the end of the show, however, Jinx changed her ways and joined the Titans amid her budding romance with Kid Flash.
In Cartoon Network Teen Titans, Jinx was voiced by Lauren Tom – except for her final appearance, in which she was voiced by Tara Strong (best known for voicing lead actor Raven). Tom then reprized his role in the The Teen Titans Go! derivative series. Jinx also made an appearance in the film The Teen Titans Go! At the movie theatereven if she didn’t speak.
Earlier this year it was announced that Ambalavanar – known for her role as Mia in The A-list – would bring Jinx to live action for the first time in the upcoming fourth season of Titans, a show that originally aired on DC Universe before moving to HBO Max. Ambalavanar joins fellow series newcomers Joseph Morgan and Franka Potente, who play Brother Blood and Mother Mayhem respectively. Based on Ambalavanar’s hair color in the new set photos, it seems safe to say that HBO Max’s version of Jinx takes visual cues from the Cartoon Network version.
Titans Season 4 does not currently have a premiere date, although the season has been confirmed to be 12 episodes long.
